Often required when a planning application / Listed Building Consent and / or Scheduled Ancient Monument Consent has been submitted for an alteration to historic fabric, an extension, change of use or demolition. The planning conditions as set out by the Conservation Officer or an Advisor to the planning authority will determine the level of recording required.
Understanding the context of a site and therefore the significance of the building(s) provides valuable information and understanding when making decisions about change to heritage. It also serves as a tool to better understand the historic building fabric, methods of decay and inappropriate interventions when planning repairs and maintenance.
